The Rite Aid pharmacy, formerly known as the Jewelry & Beauty store chain, has opened in Dubai.
It’s the first pharmacy in the Arab country to open since its closure in June, said Abdul Aziz, vice president of marketing at Rite Aid, in a statement.
Rite Aid will offer more than 200 brands of prescription medications, including vitamins and supplements, with a pharmacy-like experience, including an on-site pharmacy and on-demand pharmacy, he said.
Rita Kudryash, director of the Dubai Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, said the pharmacy is a big step in a process that has seen many other businesses in the region close their doors.
Rent for the pharmacy was about 50,000 dirhams ($1,300), Kudsyash said.
“We hope that the pharmacy will open in time for people to take advantage of our brand-new brand, and we are hoping for more brand-name pharmacies coming to the country,” Kudlyash said in a Twitter post.
The chain was established in Dubai in 2003 and is based in Dubai’s commercial center, the Sheikh Zayed Industrial Park.
